DIY DETOXIFYING HAIR MASK

Detoxifying your hair is an important step if you want to maintain healthy natural hair. A great way to detoxify your hair is by using a DIY hair mask. There are a number of ingredients that I add in my masks to enhance the detoxifying effects.

The ingredients are:

Bentonite Clay: Bentonite has a natural detoxifying property. Because of its strong negative electromagnetic charges it draws out toxins from the hair and skin.

H20: Everything loves H2O :)

Apple Cider Vinegar (with mother): Apple cider vinegar acts as a gentle cleanser and helps seal moisture into the hair cuticles.

Extra virgin olive oil: Extra virgin olive oil penetrates the hair shaft and adds conditioning properties

Organic Honey: Organic honey is added to soften the hair.

Everything should mixed together until you end up with a liquid like mix much like yogurt.

I've posted photos to show how the mask should look on the hair if it was applied correctly.

Rinse with cool water, L.O.C, then style as usual :)

PROGRESS PHOTOS

So far I am 1 year and one month natural. Below I have posted a few progress photos from when I initially big chopped.

LOC METHOD

The L.O.C method is used to help retain moisture within the strands of natural hair. Because kinky natural hair is naturally dry by natural the moisture has to be locked in. With the L.O.C method the L stands for a liquid. That liquid can be H2O or a water based leave-in condition. The O stands for an oil and the C stands for a cream. The idea is to infuse the hair strands with the liquid (L), seal it in with an Oil (O), and then style it with a cream style. Layering the hair will ensure that the liquid that was added won't be easily drawn out by the atmosphere.
This is a process that has to be done every single time the hair has been washed to seal in that good H2O.

THE NATURE OF NATURAL HAIR

Natural hair by nature is dry. Natural unrelaxed hair needs moisture and needs it REGULARLY. With relaxed hair I have always been taught not to wash it as much or not to wet is as much because it would alter the effects of my relaxer. I learned quickly that wasn't the case with natural hair. My natural hair literally needed water or a water based hair product applied to it almost daily. The struggle was definitely real and still is. Once I learned that nature of natural hair I quickly figured out that I needed to do to help it thrive.

THE TRANSITION/ BIG CHOP

This is the process of going from straight relaxed hair to kinky/coily/curly hair. When I started this step I simply stopped getting relaxers. As time went by I started to see my natural kinky texture show itself. This step didn't last long for me so I didn't have many pictures to show this. The picture below shows and example of how my transitioning hair looked. In the picture my hair was wet.
The line of demarcation that separated my relaxed hair from my naturally kinky hair was pretty clear.
Because I was anxious to see my hair without my relaxed ends I big chopped. The "BIG CHOP" simply means that someone is cutting off all of their relaxed hair only to leave their natural unrelaxed hair that had grown in. The photos below shows the results of my big chop :D!

I was pretty excited about my results but had no idea of how to care for my natural hair. It was a trial and error process for me the first few months but I FINALLY figured it out :)!

WELCOME

Welcome to my natural hair care blog. Here I will be giving my perspective on how to transition and care for your natural hair. I will also post pictures of my personal hair journey showing how I went from having relaxed hair to having natural kinky hair :).
